Bedrock, the Heath & Hospital Radio service broadcasting to patients at Queen’s Hospital (Romford), King George & Goodmayes Hospitals (Ilford), plus the local community online. Raised funds by hosting a 25-hour live programme on Saturday 28th October 2017.
The Big Bedrock Broadcast Marathon opened with an interview with the Mayor of Havering, Cllr Linda Van den Hende. – Listen to the Podcast!
The Mayor was interviewed by presenter and Acting Fundraising Officer Barry Felton and supported by co-presenters Martin Levin & Scott Mills who played some of the Mayor’s favourite songs.
Barry said “it was an honour and a privilege to open the event and interview the Mayor”.
After the interview the Mayor mingled with members of the charity run radio service whilst the marathon broadcast continued through to Sunday 29th October. During the Broadcast we entered Daylight Savings Time (GMT) around 2:00a m, which made the marathon 25 hours rather than the more conventional 24 hours!
Volunteers of Bedrock came into the studios around the clock to host the Big Bedrock Broadcast Marathon, for this event we asked the public to get involved by sponsoring a song of their choice starting from £1.00
Lee Howe the station Engineering Officer who was awake and at the station for the whole 24 hours said “I got through the event by drinking lots of coffee but felt a great sense of achievement being there for the patients.”
Chris Deighton the station Secretary added “he was pleased that the event went so well and that we received so many requests from our listeners; patients at Goodmayes and Queen’s hospitals.”
Mathew Watson, Chairman, Bedrock reiterated that, “We are very grateful for all the donations we received, and to our volunteers who gave their time generously to entertaining patients in our local hospitals & providing information to our local community online.”
