imageGolden Years is a charity aiming to combat being lonely for people over 60 years old, within the community, there are  over one million people reported as being lonely within the UK.

The charity offers so much for residents within the Barking, Havering and Dagenham, including local support groups.

The support groups invite you to come along for a cup of tea, make new friends and to talk about what you would like to do in your free time.

Pat Gillman said: “technology often frightens older members of the community, leaving them feeling out of touch, but support from  Golden Years we have an ipad support group along with many others.”

Golden Years can provide all sorts of information and help connect you to clubs to combat isolation, if getting around is a problem then they can help advise you on that too.

Dr Claire King said: “being lonely can be as harmful as smoking fifteen cigarettes a day or being obese and increase your chances of developing dementia.”

There are so many health benefits by being sociable and this charity aims to get you connected, one of the major problems with isolation is that people cannot be reached, but with your help, spreading the word about Golden Years together we can get more residents enjoying their retirement.
