Havering Council has decided to protect its green waste collection by introducing a flat rate fee for the service.
The Government have increased waste costs, leaving the Council no alternative to recoup the costs.
There will be a reduction in the basic charge for the service from £35.50 to £35, however the Council can no longer afford to subsidise the reduced rate of £28 for concessions and second or subsequent bins.
Havering is one of the cheapest fees with other councils charging more for the service in London and Essex.
The green bin collection is an optional service and residents who do not wish to use it can dispose of garden waste for free at Gerpins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre.
In 2015, more than 7,000 tonnes of garden waste was recycled in Havering and turned into compost.
