Bedrock’s Ben Stuart went along to the 80s night at  Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, organised by Havering Mind, and finds more about Havering Mind & reviews the show.

I am big, big 80’s fan. There’s the colourful characters and great sounds that made up the decades music. There’s the brilliant movies. The classic toys. Well, on Sunday the 8th November I got to view a great eighties night, brilliantly put together by Havering Mind.

Havering Mind is a registered charity that has a mission to ‘provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem, we provide services, raise awareness and promote understanding.’ A very important charity that serves a great cause. And they did a top job on Sunday-the event fully organised by the volunteers of Havering Mind creating an excellent fundraising event.
So, what did the show have on offer? Well proceedings kicked off in great eighties style as one of our two presenters for the night, Ricky (check), got things started with a energy packed rendition of Footloose! Ricky and fellow volunteer Ciaren presented with fun enthusiasm as they introduced the two acts of the night.

The first act was a Michael Jackson impersonator-‘Rory J’ who soared through MJ’s extensive best known hits, showcasing some great dance moves, that really did match the originals famed feats-very impressive. Moonwalks were deservedly met with great applause! The voice was a good match too.
We also had Popgun. I liked their style. They took big eighties hits and gave them a more electric rock sound. The lead singer had a good strong vocal, and the whole band were pro at their drums and electric guitars. They worked the stage well.

In between acts, we got to view some classic moments in TV and film on the stages big screen, these were of course classic eighties clips-a nice idea. It was also great to have a chance to have a photo taken with both acts and indeed meet them.

Havering Mind volunteers did a great job putting this event together, the acts delivered, can’t wait to see what Havering Mind have in store for us next year!
