Staff and visitors paid their respect today in the atrium at Queens Hospital for Remembrance day.

The Chaplin read prayers as we remembered those who died, followed by the Two Minute Silence  observed on Armistice Day, the day which marked the end of the First World War.

Just before 11am Queen’s staff stood arround the entrance, along the balcony and the stairs while members of the Hospital Chaplaincy team lead a short service of remembrance.

The first two-minute silence in Britain was held on 11 November 1919, when King George V asked the public to observe a silence at 11am.

This was one year after the end of World War One.

As with every year, Bedrock Volunteers, Annette Flewitt was on-hand providing the P.A system to ensure everyone could enjoy the service.

Annette said;

”It is an incredible experience transforming the atrium from a very busy loud place into a quiet still place while everyone present pays their respect during the 2 minute silence.”
