Community Christmas spirit was in the air in Elm Park with the light switch on Friday night.

Deputy Mayor and Mayoress attended and enjoyed the whole two hours along with the Elm Park councillors really embracing the community.

Councillor Barry mugglestone said: “It’s very exciting, a lot of good work by a great team.”

The Elm Park Regeneration Project team have been working hard planning this fantastic event for all the community to enjoy.

The atmosphere was buzzing along with great music provided by Bedrock radio, while  dancing  Minions and Frozen characters and a  selection of furry animals including Bedrock bear ejoyed the event too.

All the shops joined in the fun with the Eye Clinic being transformed into a Santas grotto for the occasion.

Dawn’s Barbers provided a home for photgraphing minions, with  Kes Cole who took the photographs.

Richard House won the best dressed window and best dressed shop assistants.

Councillor and Events plannerJulie Wilkes said: “we wanted to cater for children through to adulthood today with something for everyone.”

The Christmas tree lights were switched on by the Deputy Mayor.

Special guests included singer Kim Carey, the Fire Service and the school choir singing carols.

It is hoped the event can become even bigger next year with more businesses and residents getting involved.

It was a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy the community festive spirit free of charge.
