Tube Strike:

Commuters and residents are advised to plan ahead as a series of planned strikes by RMT Union which will see Tube Operators walk out across the entire London Underground network.

If you are travelling between Tuesday 21 April and Friday 24 April, here is everything you need to know to keep moving.

Strike Action Dates:

A series of staggered strike action will affect all London Underground lines.
Other transport modes are running, but are likely to be busier than normal

  • 21–22 April (12:00pm Tuesday to 11:59am Wednesday)
  • 23–24 April (12:00pm Thursday to 11:59am Friday)
  • 19–20 May (12:00pm Tuesday to 11:59am Wednesday)
  • 21–22 May (12:00pm Thursday to 11:59am Friday)

Morning of strike day: Services will start as normal, until midday (12pm) when strike action starts.
Afternoon of Strike Day: Little to no tube services will run
Following morning: Little to no services will operate until midday (12pm), with a mostly ‘normal’ service resumed by the evening peak.

Why Tube Operators of RMT Union striking?

The RMT union has called for strike action of Train Operators following a dispute over the introduction of a “compressed” four-day working week.

According to the RMT, London Underground bosses are pushing ahead with the plan despite it being rejected by the RMT union (Discussions with other unions remain open such as ASLEF. This strike is RMT members only)

RMT have concerns over Safety and Fatigue as shifts would be longer, changes to the work-life balance. and the overall Lack of Negotiation by London Underground to reach a settlement, leading to the current industrial action.

This strike is by Tube Operators only – Not Station Staff.
At most stations, staff are on hand to help you re-plan your journey during the strike action.

Local Bus Strike:

More than 300 Stagecoach bus drivers who are members of the Unite Union are set to stage further walks outs since their previous action in March.  Bus drivers at Bow Bus Garage are walking out on 17th April, 24th April and 15th May.

The 8, 25, 205, 425, N8 & N208 which operate from Bow Bus Garage, that operate around Stratford and central London will be affected.

Unite claim drivers are not having “Adequate Breaks” with fatigue caused by insufficient time between shifts causing “Near Misses”

Stagecoach say that “driver duties and rosters are strictly within the law” which is known as ‘Domestic Driving Hours Regulations’ for bus drivers.

TfL expect the 25 – Which runs from Ilford to Holborn via Stratford – To run a near normal service on strike days – However other routes maybe cancelled or delayed.
(Especially on dates that overlap with Tube Strikes)

Navigating The Strikes:

While the Tube (including the District, Central, and Hammersmith & City lines) will likely severely impacted, many of the key arteries serving our corner of the capital will remain open.

  • Other TfL Services are operating:
London Buses, Elizabeth line, Overground,  DLR, River Bus, Cycle Hire:

These will be running a mostly normal service, they maybe busier than normal.

  • C2C & Greater Anglia:
Not affected by Tube Strike action, but stations within London maybe busier as a result.
  • Planning to Drive into Central London?
Don’t forget to check the TfL Website are you may need to pay ULEZ and Congestion Charges – Going south of the river?  Don’t forget Blackwell and Silvertown tunnels charges.
