Residents are being invited to try out Barking Park’s newly refurbished basketball court at a community open day later this month.

The improvements, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, have seen £45,000 invested in upgrading the facility, creating a modern space for local people to play basketball, stay active and enjoy outdoor sport.

The open day takes place on Saturday 20 June and will feature activities for all ages. The event begins with a special “Slam Jam” session for primary school-aged children between 11am and midday. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

From 12pm until 2pm, the court will be open for a free drop-in basketball session, giving residents the chance to test out the upgraded facility and take part in the sport regardless of their experience level.

The refurbishment was supported by Basketball England through its #ProjectSwish initiative, a national programme aimed at improving outdoor basketball facilities and encouraging greater participation in the sport. As part of the project, Basketball England funded the installation of new baskets and provided technical expertise throughout the redevelopment.

The upgraded court is expected to provide a long-term community asset, helping to encourage physical activity and creating new opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in basketball locally.
