Post: Major Upgrades Underway for Brentwood’s Playgrounds

Exciting news for local families: a major revamp of Brentwood Borough’s play areas is officially kicking off this week!

Over the coming months, several key parks will undergo a modern makeover. Cromwell Road, North Road, Courages Playing Fields, Bishops Hall, and Warley Recreation Ground are all set to benefit from a wave of investment. The upgrades will replace aging equipment, install fresh safety surfacing, and bring the facilities right up to modern standards.

This planned program follows a thorough assessment of the borough’s play areas, targeting sites where equipment is nearing the end of its lifespan. By prioritizing the parks most in need, the council aims to prevent unexpected closures and give local kids the high-quality spaces they deserve.

What’s Changing Near You?

The investment will look a little different at each site, tailored to what each community needs most:

  • Cromwell Road & North Road: With some equipment now over 20 years old, both of these sites are getting a complete top-to-bottom replacement, introducing brand-new, engaging play features.

  • Courages Playing Fields: The junior play area is getting a major redesign with new equipment and fresh surfacing to keep this Shenfield favorite thriving.

  • Bishops Hall: Work is already in motion here! Kids can look forward to new junior equipment, with further upgrades for toddlers, better accessibility, and new surfacing rolling out over the next two years.

  • Warley Recreation Ground: This popular spot will see replacement play gear, safer surfacing, and much-needed boosts to the multi-use games area (MUGA) and outdoor gym.

  • Bonus Boosts: Smaller, targeted upgrades are also lined up for River Road, King George’s Playing Fields, and Hutton Recreation Ground to extend the life of their current facilities.

Councillor David Worsfold, Chair of the Clean and Green Committee at Brentwood Borough Council, shared his excitement for the project:

“We’re committed to ensuring children and families in Brentwood have access to high-quality places to play. This programme is an important investment in Brentwood’s play spaces, with new equipment and improved safety features creating modern, welcoming spaces for our communities.

“The designs and new equipment are great and will make our play areas attractive, modern and appealing to children and families. We would like to thank residents for their patience while works are carried out and look forward to reopening these improved facilities very soon.”

Safety First During Construction

To get these upgrades done safely and quickly, some play areas will need to be temporarily closed or restricted over the next few months.

Visitors are kindly asked to follow all safety signage and keep clear of active work zones. Each site will be reopened the moment it is safe, leaving the community with refreshed, safer, and much more exciting spaces to enjoy!
