Transport for London has confirmed that major works at Gallows Corner are now expected to continue until the end of August, with the road network remaining partially closed while Essex & Suffolk Water completes repairs to a newly installed water main.

According to TfL, Essex & Suffolk Water is continuing to make progress on the complex repair work. Once the utility company has finished and handed the site back, TfL will need to carry out final reinstatement and resurfacing works before the junction can fully reopen.

No date has yet been confirmed for the full reopening of Gallows Corner, although TfL says it will provide an update as soon as a timetable can be confirmed.

Some routes through the junction have been open since 10 May. Motorists can currently use the eastbound flyover between the A12 Eastern Avenue East and the A127 Southend Arterial Road, while Straight Road and Main Road remain open in both directions.

However, a number of restrictions remain in place. The westbound flyover is still closed, along with several movements between the roundabout, the A12 and the eastbound A127. Diversion routes continue to operate around the junction.

Bus services using Gallows Corner, including routes 174, 496, 498 and 499, may also experience delays of up to five minutes while the works continue.

TfL is advising motorists to allow extra time for journeys through the area, as congestion and delays are expected to continue.
Drivers making longer westbound journeys are encouraged to use alternative routes via the M25, M11 and A13 where possible.

The organisation says it is continuing to work with Essex & Suffolk Water to complete the project as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum. Further updates, including a confirmed reopening date, will be issued once more information becomes available.
