Young athletes from Havering have enjoyed an outstanding run at the 2026 London Youth Games, bringing home four team medals across athletics, swimming and aquathlon competitions.
The borough claimed three gold medals and one silver during successive events held at venues across London, with competitors representing Havering producing some of the strongest performances of the Games.
Havering were crowned overall champions in the Athletics competition after finishing top of the team standings ahead of Richmond and Redbridge. More than 260 young athletes from 22 London boroughs competed in a range of track and field events at Hillingdon Sports Complex.
The borough also celebrated success at the London Aquatics Centre, where Havering won gold in the Aquathlon competition. Around 400 competitors from 30 boroughs took part in the event, which combined swimming and running to test speed, endurance and fitness.
The success continued in the swimming competition, with Havering’s boys’ team securing another gold medal, while the girls’ team claimed silver after finishing runners-up to Croydon. More than 420 young swimmers from 27 London boroughs competed across junior and senior events.
Havering team managers praised the commitment and teamwork shown by the young athletes throughout the competitions, highlighting the dedication shown by competitors who train throughout the year at clubs across the borough.
The London Youth Games is Europe’s largest annual youth sports event, bringing together more than 10,000 young people from all 32 London boroughs and the City of London. The programme gives young athletes the opportunity to compete at a high level while promoting teamwork, confidence and healthy lifestyles.
Many former London Youth Games competitors have gone on to achieve success at the highest level of sport, including Olympic and World champions, with the event recognised as an important stepping stone for future sporting talent.
The latest results mark one of Havering’s most successful performances at this year’s Games and continue the borough’s strong tradition of producing talented young sportspeople across a range of disciplines.
