Gallows Corner in Romford is on track to fully reopen to traffic by the end of September, as the long-running improvement works enter their final stages.
Havering Council says both the roundabout and flyover are expected to reopen in all directions, with traffic management and diversions removed.
Essex & Suffolk Water has completed its final work at the junction, allowing Transport for London contractor Costain to move ahead with reinstatement and resurfacing.
Work on the A127 and A12 carriageways is being followed by final road markings and the commissioning of new pedestrian crossings.
Final closures planned
The remaining work will require further overnight and weekend closures around Gallows Corner in Romford.
The flyover will close from 10pm on Thursday 17 September until 5am on Friday 18 September. The roundabout will remain partially open during this period, with access maintained to the A12 Colchester Road eastbound, Straight Road in both directions and Main Road in both directions.
A complete closure of the Gallows Corner flyover and roundabout will then run from 10pm on Friday 18 September until 5am on Monday 21 September.
No vehicles will be able to travel through Gallows Corner in any direction during the weekend closure. This includes access to and from the A127 Southend Arterial Road, A12 Colchester Road and Eastern Avenue, and the A118 Main Road, with local diversions in place.
‘Nightmare is almost over’
Councillor Keith Prince AM, Leader of Havering Council, said the reopening would bring an end to months of disruption for residents and businesses.
He said he would continue pressing Transport for London for compensation for businesses affected by the works, as well as for damage the council says has been caused to local roads by larger vehicles using diversion routes.
Residents and motorists are being urged to plan ahead and avoid Gallows Corner where possible during the remaining work.
The entire junction is expected to fully reopen by the end of September 2026, ahead of an October deadline previously set by the council leader.
