Dear Patrons, Contributors & Members.
Bedrock, registered charity 1094430 has become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) a new registered charity 1180476 called Bedrock Radio.
Bedrock (1094330) has operated since 2002 as a unincorporated association following the merger of Harold Wood Hospital Radio and Oldchurch Radio. In 2016 Goodmayes Hospital Radio (Jumbo Sound) merged with Bedrock to provide hospital broadcasting services with an objective of providing help to relieve the effects of pain and illness for patients across Queen’s and Goodmayes Hospitals through a high quality broadcasting service.
Over the last six years within the hospital environments, we have witnessed a notable shift in how fast paced patient turnover is following the demand of the NHS, plus the focus of community care and outpatient services, coincided with the advancement in technology, how the public consume entertainment in hospitals has changed with a sharp rise in WiFi enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, compared with obsolescent methods of hospital broadcasting via exorbitant bedside television systems that charge patients to watch television.
Members of Bedrock have explored ways to outreach the health community, while still providing key in-hospital broadcasting, consulting with the Hospital Broadcasting Association and the Charity Commission we have registered Bedrock Radio a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), A CIO is a new form of charity that allow us to be incorporated, similar to a company limited by guarantee. But we are not a company, we are a registered charity.
Bedrock Radio (1180476) was created in October 2018. As of 1st February 2019 Bedrock Radio took over the operations of the unincporated association Bedrock (1094330). The charitable objectives of the CIO are:
(1) The relief of sickness, poor health and old age amongst people living in The London Boroughs of Havering, Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge by providing a local broadcasting service for hospitals, residential homes and similar institutions, and for patients receiving community care; and
