Havering Volunteering Centre hosted the Big Thank you event along with Havering Council.
The aim of the event was to show gratitude to the many people who volunteer in Havering.
The Mayor Linda Van Hende and deputy Councillor Dilip Pater were there to hand out certificates for the 10 volunteers put forward by their charities.
The volunteers were awarded a vintage tea and cakes to celebrate in style in a special marque on the Green at the Queens Theatre, Hornchurch.
Bedrock provided the PA system for the day of which Lee Howe looked after, while other bedrock members collected awards at the presentation.
Lydia Lucy, finalist of the Voice in 2016 attended to perform at the Big Event.
There were many stalls on site fundraising and recruiting for new volunteers, including RAGS, Crohns and Colitis Uk, Havering Asian Social and Welfare Group and Community First Responder and many more.
Anthea Shaw, Social Media Volunteer for Crohns and Colitis UK said: “I want to help people with the condition especially younger people see they have a future. These events help people realise awareness.”
Antoinette Webber, Volunteers Manager for Barking Havering and Redbridge Trust said: ” Today is very important to recognise our awesome volunteers get up out of bed to support us on a daily basis.”
Mike Threadgold, volunteer Community First Responder works along side the London Ambulance said: “It is great when you save someones life. In Havering there are 4 teams of 25 community first responders. We are despatched along side a London Ambulance resource. We carry defibrillators on board. We are always looking for more volunteers.”
The event was a huge success, an opportunity for people to meet fellow volunteers and find out about fresh opportunities.
